According to recent research, it has also been found that it causes so-called plasticosis when it enters the body of seabirds. In other words, the plastic causes such damage to the birds' digestive system that scars remain after they heal.

This was confirmed not only in the case of adult birds, but also in chicks. This means that when adult animals collect food, they introduce plastic into the body of the young, and the wounds and then the scars appear.
