To the delight of ornithologists, they were able to ring a bird they rarely encounter.
During the bird ringing that started in the Balaton Uplands, a bird that is considered an endangered species entered the net. The experts who perform the ringing held every year were happy to catch the striped-headed reed warbler, which is also a highly protected species in Hungary.
There was a time when the striped-headed reed warbler nested in Hortobágy, but then its population gradually decreased, and then it completely disappeared from the countryside.
Today it is found only in Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Belarus.
