We know elderly people who were left alone in their old age and realize that a cat or dog can be a very good companion.
A four-legged companion can also be a good decision for those who are not elderly but live alone. Unconditional love and having someone waiting for you at home means a lot. This can be especially true for elderly people left alone.
However, it also turned out that it means even more if there is a pet next to the older person. A research group from an American university pointed out that, according to their studies, those who shared their living space with an animal in their older years and this condition had existed for at least 5 years, performed better on memory tests than those who lived alone, without an animal.
We already know how much love and strength animals give, reduce stress and anxiety, and now we also know that they train the heart and the brain, which means that keeping a pet can also be effective against dementia in the elderly.
