However, if the third eyelid does not perform its function well and the gland protrudes, then we speak of "cherry eye" disease. The gland also plays a role in tear production, which is not removed if not warranted.

However, the appearance of the gland of the third eyelid is quite common, and it can appear in the inner corner of the eye in small and large sizes. Its surface is usually smooth, pale pink and mostly painless.

The gland is repositioned surgically. After an inappropriate procedure or too much intervention, it is possible that the animal's eye needs to be treated for the rest of its life, just as if the gland still needs to be removed (tumor, serious eye injury).

The gland may reappear after surgery. In this case, another intervention is required.
