Bring it back and turn it into hope!
SPAR Hungary has been cooperating with the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service for more than a quarter of a century, and not only during the festive periods, but also during everyday life, attention is paid to those most in need. From 31 March 2022, another opportunity will be available thanks to a special initiative that will focus not only on social sensitivity but also on environmental considerations. The organizers of the program ask the public to redeem the aluminum cans collected in the household at the vending machines located at the designated SPAR and INTERSPAR stores, and then select the donation button at the end of the redemption process. Thus, the value of the aluminum cans will serve charitable purposes, as this will help shoppers to help their children in the summer camps of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service. Children of disabled and the poorest families, albeit for a variety of reasons but excluded from many opportunities, live in a cramped living space, their childhood years not being as good as those of their other contemporaries. The opportunity-creating programs of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service are primarily about them. By offering the price of sleeping boxes, shoppers can give children in need experiences they would not be able to get anywhere else.
Every box comes back ... - and is recycled multiple times
In 2021, more than 20 million cans were exchanged in the vending machines in the selected SPAR and INTERSPAR stores, which is about 2 percent of all aluminum cans sold in Hungary, making SPAR the most cans in the country among retail chains. . Thanks to the cooperation with the organizers of the All Boxes Returns initiative, the recycled product is recycled several times: by not disposing in the trash, the environmental impact is reduced, the collected metal can be reused by the economy, which improves productivity and the charity aims for hundreds of provides a cloudless holiday for a child with a difficult fate. The cooperation between Returpack and SPAR Hungary dates back to 2010. Since then, more than 30 vending machines have been available in the chain's stores, typically INTERSPAR hypermarkets. An average of 20 million cans are recycled in the machines operating here every year, which means that more than 220 million pieces of aluminum cans - about 3.5 thousand tons - have been recycled in the nearly twelve years since the collaboration began. And that amount reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 14,000 tons.
We can save a city of energy
Recycling the boxes returned in the vending machines in the selected SPAR and INTERSPAR stores, based on Hungarian statistics, is equivalent to saving the annual energy consumption of 55,000 people - a city the size of Zalaegerszeg, Békéscsaba or Eger. Returpack collects and recycles about 70 million pieces of aluminum beverage cans per year, or more than 1,000 tons of aluminum beverage cans. The company is a member of the Every Can Counts international program, a non-profit initiative to promote the recycling of aluminum cans in 19 countries in Europe and Brazil, through the All Boxes program.
