The garden pond can be one of the favorite places in the yard, but at this time we are out less and less and if the temperature does not rise to 5 degrees, then it is also necessary to take care of the fish in the pond.

Winterizing the lake means protecting it, as well as saving the fish population. When water freezes into ice, it makes it difficult for oxygen to flow, so the goal is to avoid icing. If the winter is mild, there is not much to do, but if it is cold, heating the lake is also a possible solution.

If the winter is not too cold, i.e. the temperature rarely drops below 0 degrees, it is sufficient to cover the pond with a thin film. Fish use much less oxygen in winter. If you don't even need to cover it, but the falling leaves end up in the lake, it can cause problems, so it must be removed or use a protective net to prevent leaves from getting into the lake.

If it is not possible to heat the lake, but the weather is bad, then the safest solution is to move the fish to aquariums until spring.
